Firebrand Award Winner 2019 Ignition Community Conference
Quick Summary-
In 2019, a project that I was lead and was instrumental on the success of was honored at the Ignition Community Conference with a firebrand award.
We did a couple of unique things here:
- We did the whole project on Ignition 8.0 beta and Ignition perspective beta. It worked, and John the engineer who did all the work on that deserves all the credit. I would not suggest pushing to production on a beta. Much less a new .0 beta.
- We included Virtual reality. Flying drones around the landfill, we were able to capture it all, load it up to the could and render everything in 3D. Thus allowing us to show the decision makers what their landfill looked like in the boardroom.
The major success here was that we were able to leverage this win on a pilot project to all the 28 facilties in the county.
Project Overview-
San Bernardino County in Southern California was looking for its next-generation visualization and control system for its landfills. Piloting the San Timoteo Landfill allowed SCS Remote Monitoring and Control (SCS RMC) and Dave to provide major upgrades, use a flexible, scalable platform including Ignition 8 and Ignition Perspective, and integrate next-generation options such as 3D imaging from drones and virtual reality (VR).
The San Timoteo Landfill was the pilot project in what has become a major upgrade cycle for 28 landfill gas (LFG) systems in San Bernardino County. Existing equipment was older and in need of upgrade — and did not have an easy-to-use HMI or data visualization.
Existing equipment was older and in need of upgrade — and did not have an easy-to-use HMI or data visualization. In addition to across-the-board equipment and cellular upgrades, Dave and SCS implemented an Ignition 8 gateway and the Ignition Perspective module. When the process began, 8 was in Beta. As Dave and SCS got closer to the project deadline, the nightly builds improved to the point of adding critical functionality on trends and graphs to meet the County’s major deliverables.
