What will the future of control look like?

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒘𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒖𝒕𝒖𝒓𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒓𝒐𝒍 𝒍𝒐𝒐𝒌 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆?

I’m not sure anyone can predict with 100% accuracy – but let’s talk about it and in 10 years we can all look back at how wrong we were!

10 years from now… What will controllers look like on the plant floor?

L̳e̳g̳a̳c̳y̳ ̳P̳L̳C̳’̳s̳ ̳a̳n̳d̳ ̳C̳o̳n̳t̳r̳o̳l̳l̳e̳r̳s̳ – Still the legacy Rockwell Automation and Siemens options that we’ve been running on for decades?

They are tried and true for a reason!

S̳t̳a̳n̳d̳ ̳a̳l̳o̳n̳e̳ ̳L̳i̳n̳u̳x̳ ̳b̳a̳s̳e̳d̳ ̳b̳o̳x̳e̳s̳ – Will we get into stand alone boxes with running Linux or some other OS controlling machines?

C̳e̳n̳t̳r̳a̳l̳ ̳S̳e̳r̳v̳e̳r̳s̳ – Maybe we just run all the control off of central servers and kill the PLC’s. Heck maybe we get crazy and run everything from the cloud!

O̳t̳h̳e̳r̳ ̳(̳P̳l̳e̳a̳s̳e̳ ̳C̳o̳m̳m̳e̳n̳t̳)̳

Drop your thoughts below and we can all look back at what massive changes our industry has had in 10 years!

Of note

We had a lot of conversation of PLC v PAC (wait for next week’s poll to come out)…

There were many comments about how there are still many PLC 5’s still running plant floors.

Talks of different protocols and more!
